On the lake's southwest shore, Broadalbin is quiet bays, the family-run Great Sacandaga Brewing Co., a town beach beside the state launch, and the North Broadalbin stretch where our cottage sits. It's the 'local' town — low-fuss, close to everything.
The busiest lakeside village along NY-30 — a string of marinas (Pluchino's, Reets, Family Boat Rental), the lake's only lifeguarded public beach at the end of Burr Road, and the big Northampton Beach Campground & Marina on the northwest shore.
The village at the lake's south end and the gateway to the Adirondacks. Since the dam, Northville sits on a peninsula between the lake and the Sacandaga River — home to the Northville–Lake Placid Trail's southern trailhead at Waterfront Park and a historic downtown on the National Register.
The quiet, forested west shore split by the lake and reconnected by the Batchellerville Bridge. Edinburg keeps one of New York's few covered bridges (1879) and its shores are dotted with seasonal camps and coves.
A sliver of a town that lost a chunk of itself to the reservoir — the hamlet of Conklingville and the dam that created the lake sit here. Its North Shore Road launch gives easy access to the lake's upper basin near the dam.
Where the Sacandaga meets the Hudson. Hadley is home to the Conklingville Dam and its E.J. West hydro plant, the Hadley Mountain fire-tower hike, and a National-Register parabolic bridge. Winter here means bald eagles at open water by the dam.
